Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ayman El-Shahaby, Dean of the Faculty, the 3rd Annual Training and Employment Forum was held at the Faculty of Engineering, Shubra, Benha University, for students and graduates on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the faculty’s two locations: Al-Khalafawy and Rod El-Farag. The event was attended by 40 leading companies working in various engineering fields, aiming to provide training and employment opportunities for students and graduates.

This significant engineering event reflects the faculty’s commitment to supporting its outstanding students and graduates through a job fair, professional talks, career guidance sessions, and technical skills workshops.

An official invitation from the Dean was sent to 40 major industrial companies and training firms. After coordination, attendance was confirmed by most, with 5 companies unable to attend due to time constraints. Arrangements were made to distinguish between companies giving lectures in the auditorium and those participating only in the exhibition held in the faculty courtyard.

The forum began with welcoming the companies at the Dean’s office in the presence of the faculty vice-deans and several faculty members. Discussions focused on the scope of graduates’ work and how to secure job opportunities in these companies.

A schedule for the forum day was organized, setting specific times for each company’s presentation to allow students to attend all sessions.

Each company’s lecture was limited to about 30 minutes, including a Q&A session with student representatives.

Recommendations:

• The Training and Employment Forum effectively contributed to strengthening the practical training component for the faculty’s graduates.

• Based on the benefits of this forum, it is recommended to hold this event annually and invite an even larger number of leading industrial companies.

Before starting the evacuation plan at the Faculty of Engineering, Shubra, the Community Service Sector, under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty, organized workshops at the faculty to explain the evacuation plan, how to act during the evacuation drill, and the designated gathering points outside the building. Emphasis was placed on leaving quickly, calmly, and responsibly without crowding or pushing.

Before the evacuation drill began, the faculty’s medical team was prepared and stationed in front of the building to assist anyone needing medical support. Instructions were issued to quickly disconnect the elevators upon hearing the alarm.

At exactly 11:00 AM, the alarm was triggered through the faculty’s fire alarm and warning system, prompting the evacuation of the eight-story building, including workshops located beneath it, following the directional signs.

The building contains eight lecture halls, as well as sections, laboratories, and faculty offices. The seventh floor houses the faculty administration offices (including the Dean’s office, the Vice Deans’ offices, the General Manager’s office, and several administrative departments).

The evacuation took about four minutes and was completed without any crowding or pushing. The last to leave the building, after students and faculty staff, were the faculty leaders, heads of departments, and department managers. The entire process was overseen by the administrative security staff, the evacuation plan execution teams, and some members of the student union who helped guide students to the pre-designated gathering points.

The site coordination team directed everyone to remain at the gathering point until the danger passed, preventing entry or exit from the main doors until the evacuation process was completed. Once everyone was accounted for at the gathering point, and after thorough building inspections by all teams confirmed no hazards remained, the drill was declared complete by turning off the alarm sound.

Everyone then returned to their previous locations: students went back to lecture halls, and administrative staff returned to their offices to continue their academic and workday activities.

The evacuation drill was documented with photos and videos by the documentation team. The faculty’s administrative security team secured the building and maintained order throughout the exercise.

On Monday, February 19, 2024, students from the Faculty of Engineering, Shubra, Benha University, visited the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) as part of the cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering, Shubra, and the Organization, according to the agreement made during a meeting between the Faculty’s Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdelaziz, and the Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, Dr. Eng. Khaled Hassan Sofy.

The visit involved students from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departments touring the engineering laboratories at the organization, including the Household Appliances Testing Department (Safety Lab IP, Vacuum Cleaner Energy Efficiency Testing Lab, Washing Machines Testing Lab, and Gas Stove Testing Lab), the Mechanical and Metallurgical Testing Department (Hardness Testing Lab, Mechanical Measurements Lab, Fire Extinguishers Testing Lab), and the Electrical and Electronic Testing Department (Electrical Cables Lab, Television Lab, Lamps Lab, Glow Wire Lab).

The purpose of the visit was to highlight the importance and role of standards for future generations and to emphasize the importance of adopting a spirit of development in the educational process. This approach aims to graduate a generation of engineers who appreciate the significance of standards and are sufficiently aware of the role played by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality in various fields. It also reflects the belief in the importance of building a generation capable of understanding the role and importance of Egyptian Standard Specifications and how to apply them.

The visit was supervised by Dr. Mamdouh Wafaa Shawky Al-Desouky from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Shubra, who is also a member of the General Engineering Committee, the General Committee for Standards, and the Hydrogen Technology Committee at the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality.
