 – Benha University Continues to Achieve Excellence by Honoring an Outstanding Graduation Project from the Mechanical Engineering Department

Reaffirming its leadership, the Faculty of Engineering at Shoubra proudly celebrates the achievement of a team of students from the Design and Production Division, Mechanical Engineering Department, who developed an exceptional graduation project titled:

“Development of an ROV for Water Hyacinth Removal in the Nile River.”

The project won the Best Design Award at the First Benha University Robotics Championship, held at Benha University on September 14–15, 2025, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University. This remarkable student and technological event aims to foster students’ practical and creative skills in robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence.

This achievement stands as proof of the project’s scientific and practical value, showcasing the students’ high-level skills, dedication, and ability to excel in a professional setting. The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) can navigate on water surfaces to cut and collect water hyacinths without shredding them—thus preserving the plant’s value and enabling its reuse as raw material in various industries, including:

  • Eco-friendly paper production using the plant’s natural fibers.

  • Organic fertilizer production through natural biodegradation.

  • Animal feed manufacturing.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdelaziz, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Sameh Shoukry, Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department, extended their congratulations to the distinguished team, supervised by Prof. Dr. Maha Mahmoud Ali Lasheen, Professor of Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Department, Shoubra Faculty of Engineering, Benha University.

The outstanding team included:

  • Fady Zakary William Zakary (Team Leader)

  • Ali Osama Ali Habashy (Member)

  • Ahmed Mohamed Abdelhaq (Member)

  • Ibrahim Mahmoud (Member)

  • Mina Adel Fahim (Member)

They praised the dedicated efforts to guide and support students towards excellence, affirming that such successes strengthen the Faculty’s position and reinforce Benha University’s reputation as a leading educational institution that graduates innovators capable of competing in the job market.
