Construction Engineering and Management is a broad academic field specializing in the design, engineering, and management of construction projects. It encompasses expertise in engineering design, understanding legal and professional practices related to the construction industry, and knowledge of construction processes, communication, execution methods, materials, systems, equipment, planning, scheduling, occupational safety, and cost analysis and control. The field also includes management-related subjects such as economics, business, accounting, law, statistics, professional ethics, leadership, decision-making, development methods, process analysis and design, engineering economics, engineering management, safety, and cost engineering.
The Construction Engineering and Management Program was officially launched following Ministerial Decree No. (907) on February 22, 2017. The program aims to prepare students for professional careers in construction engineering and management by equipping them with essential technical skills, personal competencies, and knowledge in the field.
The program aspires to supply the job market with engineers capable of designing and managing construction processes for administrative buildings, industrial facilities, airports, residential complexes, roads, bridges, utilities, water resources projects, and coastal engineering projects. Additionally, graduates can work in geotechnical engineering, foundations, transportation systems, surveying, environmental engineering, water resources, hydraulic structures, water supply systems, and coastal protection projects.
The Construction Engineering and Management Program aims to achieve key educational objectives by equipping students with a deep understanding of fundamental knowledge, enabling them to apply analytical and experimental techniques effectively. It prepares them to design, engineer, and manage structures and construction sites while staying updated on the latest advancements in civil engineering and construction management. The program also focuses on developing essential communication and teamwork skills, all while emphasizing the importance of upholding professional ethics in their practice. The program also aims to foster an environment that supports students in achieving their ambitions, promoting innovation, enhancing self-learning abilities, and preparing them for lifelong learning and continuous professional development.
The program provides various employment opportunities in construction and site management, including:
-
Site Engineer: Executes and coordinates construction operations on-site.
-
Design Engineer: Develops the foundations and details of various construction projects such as administrative buildings, industrial facilities, airports, residential complexes, roads, bridges, water structures, coastal facilities, utilities, and dams.
-
Survey Engineer: Conducts land surveying for all types of construction projects.
-
Cost Estimation Engineer: Prepares detailed cost estimations and budgets for designs and construction activities, including pre-design processes, material estimation, and resource requirements.
-
Planning and Scheduling Engineer: Plans and monitors project schedules, ensuring proper sequencing of construction activities.
-
Quality Control/Assurance Engineer: Ensures that construction items and processes comply with project specifications and standards.
-
Project Monitoring Engineer: Reviews the project’s cost and time performance during construction.
-
Contracts Engineer: Reviews project contract terms, prepares change orders, and handles claims.
-
Health, Safety, and Environmental Engineer: Implements and monitors health and safety systems for the project to meet safety standards.
-
Project Engineer: Designs all or parts of a project’s execution and coordinates with the design team to achieve project objectives.
